Let’s take a moment to reflect on where you are in your life and business today…
Chances are, these three statements ring true for many of us:
1. Where you are today is probably beyond anything you imagined when you were eighteen.
2. The journey you took to reach this point? It’s likely been anything but predictable. Can you even remember what you thought back then, or how you would end up working in your current field?
3. Let’s get real — the path that led you to this moment has probably been a winding road, not a straight line. If your life is anything like mine, it has been convoluted, with ups, downs, and all sorts of detours.
So, how did you get to this point?
What did you do to become good at what you do?
Was it because of some magical overnight success?
Of course not.
It came from a series of ordinary actions, done consistently over time.
We get good at what we do not because of one great leap, but through countless bits of practice, making mistakes, getting corrections, practicing some more, and yes, making more mistakes.
It’s a cycle. The intensity of our practice often dictates how quickly we become proficient.
Are you with me so far?
Now let’s switch gears a bit…
Think about your bad habits or ineffective business practices. You know the ones that hinder the growth and profitability of your business.
Those habits didn’t pop up overnight, did they?
More likely, they are the results of ordinary actions that you’ve repeated over time, and just like good habits, bad habits feed on themselves until they become difficult to unlearn.
Changing these habits requires a certain amount of courage and a willingness to endure discomfort. But trust me, the effort is absolutely worth it if we want to grow.
Reflecting on my own journey, I’ve found that a lot of my struggles stem from the desire for instant gratification…
We all crave that one big breakthrough that will change everything in a flash. The lure of getting quick results with minimal effort is hard to resist, right?
But if I’ve learned one thing over the years, it’s that life doesn’t work that way.
You don’t get lung cancer after just one puff of a cigarette.
You don’t gain 20 lbs from a single meal.
Financial woes don’t materialise overnight.
So, it’s pretty irrational to think you’ll unwind those challenges in an instant.
So here’s the reality check for all of us:
The results we see in our lives and businesses, whether they’re good or not-so-good, came from continuous, steady, consistent daily actions. If we want things to change, we need to implement different continuous, steady, consistent daily actions.
The beauty of this realisation is that it places the power back in our hands. We can choose to approach our daily actions with intention and purpose.
While it might not be glamorous and it certainly won’t yield immediate results, each small step adds up. Every bit of effort counts, and before you know it, you’ll look back and realise just how far you’ve come.
So let’s focus on being committed to the journey, even when it feels slow or cumbersome. After all, the consistent actions we take today are what will shape our tomorrow.
There’s a lot more to share, but for right now, I would like you to take some time to pause and spark your thinking…
